Today's Devereaux Nuggest

December 27 ~
On this day in 1968, Apollo 8 completed its successful moon mission. The capsule with astronauts Frank Borman, James Lovell and William Anders splashed down at 10:52 am. Astronaut Borman, a friend and former West Point student and colleague of then SDSM&T President Harvey Fraser, soon became an SDSM&T alum. On March 12, 1969, Borman visited campus and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering during a special campus convocation. Several months later, Alumni Borman returned to the School of Mines for the 1970 alumni reunion. The astronaut not only enjoyed reunion activities, he served as keynote speaker for the formal dedication of the Devereaux Library.
