South Dakota School of Mines: June 9, 1972

Flash floods wreak havoc on Rapid City, Keystone, Rockerville, and Sturgis - takes 238 lives [Stymiest, Ruth Anne. "Centennial: An Illustrated History, 1885-1985". 1985, pg. 130] Campus losses include two faculty members, Herbert Weisz, professor of mining engineering and Dr. Lowell Dieter, associate professor of chemistry [Stymiest, Ruth Anne.
