October 9 ~ It’s a busy day at the patent office in 1855; Isaac Singer patents the sewing machine motor, Joshua Stoddard patents his calliope. Interested in applying for your own patent ? Get the scoop @ your library. The first generator at Boulder Dam begins transmitting electricity to Los Angeles, on this day in 1936. The name of the dam was later changed to Hoover Dam .
