125 years ago today, on August 19, 1885, the cornerstone of the first building for the Dakota Territory School of Mines was dedicated.

South Dakota School of Mines: August 12, 1943 & 1962

August 12, 1943 - Geology Department installs a Seismograph, placed into operation on this date. [The Hardrock. Alumni Association, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. September/October, 1943, vol. 10, no. 1, pg.7]


1962 - Seismograph moved from O'Harra building to its own building on the hill just to the west of the present Goodell Gymnasium [Stymiest, Ruth Anne. "Centennial: An Illustrated History, 1885-1985". 1985, pg. 104-105]
