The Inventor Assistance Program (IAP) is now available to inventors in South Dakota. This program provides legal assistance to low-income inventors and nonprofits. The LegalCORPS IAP, supported by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, matches eligible inventors with experienced patent attorneys who provide assistance at no charge. Financial guidelines for this program stipulate that an inventor’s household income must be 300% or less of the federal poverty level. The Devereaux Library is the only United States Patent and Trademark Resources Center in the state of South Dakota. We will be happy to connect you with this service and the many other resources of the federal Patent and Trademark Office.

Did you know that the School of Mines has a long history of hosting track meets?   The RMAC track meet to be held this weekend is not the first time the institution has hosted such an event. Nearly a century ago, the School of Mines established the annual Black Hills Track and Field Meet. The first such event was held in 1921. The School of Mines invited all high schools throughout the West River area to send their best athletes to the event organized by the Student Association. Nearly two dozen separate contests were held, winners were awarded medals and trophy cups. School of Mines students entertained their guest with novelty events throughout the contest. The participants were treated to several special events including entertainment at the Elks Theatre the evening before the meet and meals throughout the event. You can access this service anywhere using your school laptop.   There are several quick tutorials to help you get started .   They have other tools as well you can use. In 1974 the School of Mines, in cooperation with the Rapid City Area Chamber of Commerce, spearheaded a carpool project.  Interested parties submitted their contact information as well as home and work locations and expected schedules and received a list of prospective carpool partners.  Maybe it’s time to revisit this idea?  We might save some gasoline, wear and tear on vehicles and roads, and maybe even free up a parking place or two.  

  Did you know that by law you must submit copies of documents, photos, videos, etc. that are created using campus funds and/or resources?  The South Dakota State Legislature passed this law several years ago.  Recently, the South Dakota State Library delegated the responsibility of collecting the materials produced at regental institutions to their respective library.  The Devereaux Library has tried to make this as painless as possible. You can submit your materials via the library’s website . Located on the menu bar is a Submit Archival Documents link for easy submission of electronic material. The Devereaux Library will then archive and make them publicly accessible as required by law. Not only will you be abiding by the law, you will be saving a piece of history for future generations.
